QI - THE FORCE OF LIFE

Qi is the substance, the soul of all things. Both physical and metaphysical, Qi is the force that empowers the growth and development of the sky, of the earth, and of man. It is also called "The breath of life".
Qi has many meanings. It is the air we breathe, the magnetic field of the Earth, the cosmic radiation, the light of the Sun. It is our Spirit, it is Luck.

Although westerners might consider this as abstract, in the oriental cultures it is believed that Qi is the force that governs our health, our wealth, and our happiness. On one hand, the existence of Qi cannot be scientifically proven, and some of its more mystical aspects cannot be explained by straightforward beliefs. On the other hand, you cannot prove the existence of a sixth sense, of luck, of intuition, or of destiny, but most people believe the above mentioned concepts are present and posses an integral part of our daily lives. It is believed that Qi is split into three forces, the Earthly Qi, the Heavenly Qi, and the Human Qi.

The Earthly Qi, associated with the mountains, the waters, the deserts, valleys and fields exists in currents that influence our physical health, our mood, and the relationships we may have with other people.

The Heavenly Qi is associated with the celestial bodies that exist in the universe and influence our daily lives more than one might originally believe. It is also associated with the weather.Take the Sun for example, it sustains life, without its warmth, life on earth would be impossible, but it is also a force to be not to be reckoned with. If we do not respect the Sun’s power we can get burned, its radiation can even cause death.Consider the Moon, and its effects on us and our planet. It can change the shape of the Earth, of its waters, every 12 hours. Now think about the effect it has on us, considering its power over our planet.

The Human Qi. Everybody is thought to posses Qi. Starting from birth, from our first breath, Qi merges with the body and the soul, creating the Human Qi,that is why, in Feng Shui the year and date of birth is important for finding out various information about yourself or others. Everybody has their own Qi, and each of them is different to another, just like fingerprints. Our mind is a very powerful emitter of qi.When a person is happy, he emits good qi, which is Sheng Qi and make others feel happy. When a person is sad or angry emits bad qi,which is Sha Qi and make others feel unconfortable or become also angry or sad.

Luck is Qi.You feel its existence but you cannot prove it. Our will to succeed in life is also Qi.'Qi' is a combination of meanings.Qi is existence and it can interchangeably be energy or matter.

Different people will not react in a same way to the same qi. It is just like how different people react to the same kind of food. This is because everyone has his own path of life and we can find something about it understanding The Four Pillars of Destiny.

Since the Qi is different in different houses, the goal of Feng Shui is to get the best out of the environment. A place with a good Feng Shui provides the right elements to create sheng qi and a positive thinking is needed to make things true.
The Chinese Calendar may help you find the days with proper Qi for you,the right time to do special things and have success.
The five kinds of qi prevailing at a certain time and space are known as Five elements or phases:wood, fire, earth, metal and water.

The concept of Yin and Yang is the foundation of Chinese Metaphisycs.
Yin is the passive principle in nature , Yang represents the active principle, and they are viewed as opposite.
The Tai Ji symbol represents yin-yang interaction.Tai Ji is generated from state of Void or Wu Ji.The black part is called Yin and the white part is called Yang. Yin and Yang are always in motion in a dynamic equilibrium. They are relative, not absolute.

The principle of Feng Shui that deals with yin and yang is that it is good for balance to exist. For example,in a hot sunny afternoon it is good to have a tree(yin) in the garden to screen off the sunlight(yang) or in a cold winter is good to have a strong fire to keep you warm .
If The Four Pillars of Destiny of a person are well balanced, life is smooth and easy.By reading our destiny we seek balance and harmony.

FIVE ELEMENTS or FIVE PHASES

About

The Five Elements are the five kinds of Qi prevailing at a certain time and space.
It is used in Chinese metaphysical studies - Feng Shui,Traditional Chinese Medicine,Astrology,Divination.
The concept "WuXing"is fundamental.'Wu means '"Five" and "Xin" may be translated as"Action" so the word 'Phase'may define "Xin"better than "Element".
In fact 'Wu Xing' is the short form of 'Wu zhong liu xing zhi qi' translated "The five types of qi dominating at different times".

In old times ,people observed the changes in the environment.
The five phenomenon they noticed, they used to describe as the five types of matter or energy:Wood,Fire,Earth,Metal and Water.
. Every phase is connected to a season,to one or more directions, colours, numbers , trigrams ,etc.
They all have different properties.
WATER
Water(Shui) is liberal and flows downwards. Its season is winter and we find it in north.
It is wavy, dark blue or black.Water is the origin of life.
WOOD
Wood (Mu) grows upwards ,it prevails in spring and its directions are east and south-east.It means emerging.
It is shaped like a beam and its colours are green and light blue.
FIRE
Fire (Huo),radiant and hot, it is connected with summer and we find it in the south.
Its shape is triangular and the fire colours are red, orange, pink or purple.Fire transforms matter into energy.
EARTH
Earth (Tu) is placed in the Center.Being stable,it attracts and concentrates.
Its shape is square ,its colours are yellow and brown.
METAL
Metal(Jin),sharp and pointy,it prevails in autumn.Metal's directions are west and north-west.It means stopping.
Its colours are white, silver or golden and its shape is round or spherical.

Interactions

Enhancing,Weakening and Controlling Cycles

The enhancing(generating)cycle indicates a smooth flow of energy.
The controlling(conflicting)cycle indicates obstruction in the flow of energy.
None of them is always good or bad.Balance is the key to harmony.

    Example for Wood
      Water enhances Wood.
Water nurtures a tree helping it to become strong and healthy, but too much water will suffocate it.
Fire weakens Wood.Wood loses energy when it burns.
Metal controls Wood.Using metallic tools we can transform a tree into furniture.
